What is it?
Global Dignity is an autonomous non-profit, non-criticism and non-partisan project that aims to be inspiration-based while commending and encouraging best practice and dignitycentred leadership rather than criticizing shortcomings.
The mission of Global Dignity is to implement globally the universal right of every human being to lead a dignified life. This is a paradigm shift in thinking about our global challenges, a new language and mindset to approach issues of poverty, peace and progress. The project seeks to help define the spiritual centre of the Young Global Leader (YGL) community, imbedding what Global Dignity does in each and every task force and initiative of the community, to boldly suggest that “within the YGL community, you cannot consider yourself a leader unless you are prepared to (also) serve (others).”

The Dignity
Principles
:
  1. Every human being has a right to lead a dignified life.
  2. A dignified life means an opportunity to fulfil one’s potential, which is based on having a humane level of healthcare, education, income and security.
  3. Dignity means enjoying the freedom to make decisions related to one’s own life as well as the respect of this right.
  4. Dignity should be the basic guiding principle for all actions.
  5. Ultimately, one’s own dignity is co-dependent on the dignity of others.
How does
it work?
A group of YGLs visit children at schools around the world and introduce a new language to convey the concept of dignity. They also involve the children in essay competitions on their views of dignity.

What has been achieved so far?
Dignity Days have been held in Vancouver, Istanbul, New Delhi, Davos, and most recently in Amman with H.M. Queen Rania of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

Next steps?
The project introduced dignity as a teaching session in the South African school system for 2007/08. A Global Dignity Day is envisaged for 2008.

Unique value of the YGL contribution:
