Young Global Leaders

Under the health task force,Table for Two is a Young Global Leader (YGL) initiative that aims to save the world with each meal consumed. It simultaneously tackles obesity and other life-style related diseases in developed countries and hunger and malnutrition in developing countries.

In preparation for the global roll-out, pilot programmes have been conducted in Japan at Itochu Corporation HQ; IBM, in their six offices in Japan; Family Mart; and Japan Airlines. Compass Group, the world’s largest food service company, has supported the Itochu, IBM and Family Mart pilots. Alliances on school meal delivery have been formed with the World Food Programme (the largest provider of school meal programmes around the world) and Millennium Promise (Jeffrey Sachs’ initiative to meet the Millennium Development Goals).

Following the successful completion of the pilot program, the full roll-out was initiated in Japan with participations from major Japanese corporations including Fujitsu, Nissay, Tokio Marine&Nichido Fire Insurance, The Chuo Mitsui Trust and Banking, and POLA. A dozen more companies have already signed up for next year.  

Indian chapter was launched this December with support from Young Global Leaders in India. US chapter is scheduled to be launched in next April. Lehman Brothers is already committed to conduct the program at its headquarter office in New York.

Table for Two is in discussions with Global Fortune 500 companies to join a global roll-out. Chapters in Tokyo and New York are being set up. Roll-out at meal settings beyond company cafeterias, such as restaurants and cafes, are being designed.

 

Young Global Leaders have the skills and network to quickly launch a powerful global initiative and to reach out to companies and restaurants around the world.

 

We wish to expand this initiative globally within the YGL network. We are looking for project leaders in each country/region, as well as introductions to companies and restaurants that would be interested in implementing the project.
