Mr. Abdel-Wadood joined Abraaj with broad management, investment banking and corporate finance experience from EFG Hermes, where he served as CEO for the UAE and previously as the Managing Director of Investment Banking, EFG Hermes Egypt. During his time at EFG Hermes, he was associated with many successful transactions including public listing of Vodafone Egypt, rights issue of Olympic Group and acquisition of Sidi Krier power plant by CDC Globeleq. Mr. Abdel-Wadood also served for 8 years with Orascom Group as Director of Business Development and Investment. He has an undergraduate degree from Cairo University and an MBA from Georgetown University.
Abdul Razak , Nazir YGL 2005
Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Commerce International Merchant Bankers Bhd , Malaysia
Nazir Razak has been CEO of Commerce International Merchant Bankers Bhd (CIMB), Malaysia’s leading investment bank, since 1999. He is credited for the bank’s dominant market share of Malaysia’s bond issues and corporate advisory work. After graduation he returned to Malaysia and joined CIMB, taking an entry-level position in its corporate finance department. He later led the team that took the power-generation company,Tenaga Nasional, public in Malaysia’s largest-ever initial public offering, raising US$1.2 billion. He has a degree in Political Science and Economics from the University of Bristol, and a Master’s in Economic Development from Cambridge.
Abdullah , Omar YGL 2007

Omar Abdullah became one of the youngest members of the Indian parliament when he won his first election in 1998 and served in the ministries of transport and tourism. Re-elected in 1999, he was made a junior minister in charge of commerce and industry in the central cabinet, and then a minster in the foreign ministry. He was re-elected for a third consecutive term in 2004. Omar's focus is on finding long-term solutions for the problem of unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir. He holds a BSc in Commerce and an MSc in Business Administration from Sydenham College in Mumbai.

In 1999, Reem Abdullah founded the Women’s Charitable Organization for the Elimination of Poverty, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of poor women and children through job training and health education. She was recently awarded a Technology Innovation grant to implement an IT plan for the organization. Reem is also an attorney for the law firm Al Tamimi & Co., where she holds practical experience in the field of maritime law, port development and management. She was a Humphrey Fellow at the University of Washington in 2002.

Hafsat Abiola is the Founder and Director of Nigeria’s Kudirat Initiative for Democracy (KIND), an organization that seeks to promote the development of women and youth as initiators of change by offering targeted training opportunities including seminars and leadership programmes. KIND's ultimate objective is to strengthen Nigeria's civil society and secure lasting democracy for its people. Before founding KIND, Hafsat Abiola worked at the Special Olympics as Programme Coordinator for Africa and the Middle East. She was a leader in Nigeria’s pro-democracy movement. She has written numerous articles for the international and Nigerian press and holds a BA from Harvard University.

Muna Abu Sulayman is the Executive Manager of Strategic Studies and Research Initiatives for Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Abdul Aziz Al Saud at the Kingdom Holding Company (KHC) in Saudi Arabia. KHC's domestic and international portfolio includes investments in everything from world-famous luxury hotels to banking, media and information technology, entertainment and tourism. Her work focuses on increasing understanding between Islam and the West through the establishment of academic centres and programmes, both in the Middle East and in the United States. Muna is an English literature lecturer at King Saud University and a UNDP Goodwill Ambassador. She holds a BA and MA from George Mason University and is completing her PhD in Arab-American Literature.
Acemoglu , Daron YGL 2006

Daron Acemoglu is professor of Applied Economics at MIT and a member of the Economic Growth programme of the Canadian Institute of Advanced Research. He is affiliated with the National Bureau of Economic Research, Center for Economic Performance and Center for Economic Policy Research. He has held positions at the London School of Economics and MIT since 1993. He has received numerous awards and fellowships, including the TW Shultz prize (University of Chicago 2004), the Sherwin Rosen award for outstanding contribution to labour economics (2004) and the John Bates Clark medal (2005). Daron's work has been published in leading scholarly journals, including the American Economic Review and the Review of Economic Studies. Daron's research covers many subjects, including political economy, economic development and growth, human capital theory, technical change and search theory. He is the editor of the Review of Economics and Statistics and associate editor of the Journal of Economic Growth. He received a BA in Economics at the University of York, MSc in Mathematical Economics and Econometrics at the London School of Economics and PhD in Economics at the London School of Economics.
Acurio , Gastón YGL 2007

Gastón Acurio and his wife Astrid own Astrid y Gastón, a Lima restaurant that specializes in a modern concept of traditional Peruvian cuisine, with branches in Quito (Ecuador), Santiago (Chile), Bogotá (Colombia), and soon in Panama City, Caracas and México City. The couple operates a catering service as well, serving 3000 meals each day. Gastón has his own TV show in Perú and has just released his third cookbook. He was named Latin American Entrepreneur of 2005 by América Economía, the leading pan-regional business magazine. His remarkable presentation at Madrid Fusion 2006, the international gastronomy summit, received rave reviews from food critics and chefs all over the world. Gastón obtained the Cordon Bleu's Grand Diplome in the early 1990s at the age of 24.
Adelegan , Joseph Akinkugbe YGL 2006
Director-General, Global Network for Environment and Economic Development Research , Nigeria
Joseph Akinkugbe Adelegan is the director-general of the Global Network for Environment and Economic Development Research, a frontline African NGO involved in developmental and exploratory research and policy reform on environment and sustainable development issues in sub-Saharan Africa. In 2005, he received an international environmental award for "Cows to Kilowatts," a project which converted slaughterhouse waste into renewable energy. Under his direction, the Network has become one of the leading environmental NGOs in Africa. Joseph is a chartered civil engineer, consulting engineer, university lecturer and researcher at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He holds several Masters degrees: two in Water Resources and Environmental Health Engineering and one in Business Administration. He also holds a postgraduate diploma in Civil Engineering from the University of St Cyril and Methodius in Skopje, Macedonia.
Adesina , Debo YGL 2006
Editor, Guardian Newspapers , Nigeria
Debo Adesina is the editor of THE GUARDIAN, the most influential newspaper in Nigeria. Previously, he edited The African Guardian magazine and The Guardian on Saturday, a weekly newspaper. Adesina joined the Guardian Newspapers group in 1988 and honed his skills as a reporter/writer on politics and economic affairs. Celebrated as a writer of evocative prose, he distinguished himself early in his journalism career. As editor, Debo has been, at different times, in command of two of Nigeria's most vibrant journals that expose endemic ills in the nation's polity. In 1999, he was named editor of THE GUARDIAN, placing him in charge of the most influential medium in Africa's largest country. The paper has remained the reference point for journalism practice in Nigeria and is regarded as the most credible voice in the country. Twice nominated for the Outstanding Young Persons award, Debo has won several professional laurels including Media Personality of the Year and the Editor of the Year award (a three-time winner). Debo also sits on advisory boards of many non-governmental and charity organizations. He holds a BSc (Honours) degree in Communications from the University of Lagos.
