YGL20: Day 1 Highlights

That's a wrap! We hope you enjoyed Day 1 of the YGL Annual Summit. Here's what we got up to:

- In our (Geneva) afternoon community session, Peter Lacy spoke about the challenges we are facing in the decade to deliver the 2030 SDG goals. We also heard from YGLs like Richard Walker and Sarah bint Yousif Al-Amiri on how they factor the five elements of responsible leadership like stakeholder inclusion into their work.

- Our Opening Plenary kicked off with the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed speaking to YGLs about the critical importance of being young leaders. Thank you to Michael Kremer, Kennedy Odede, and Ivy Huq Russell who shared how Covid-19 has dramatically shifted the world’s dynamics and how we must come together as leaders to solve these challenges.

- Finally, we closed out the evening with another Responsible Leadership session. Rana el Kalibouby mentioned the importance of technology and emotional intelligence in machines, but the only we can achieve that is by celebrating the human connections and collaboration amongst each other. We also heard from Soledad Nunez on responsible leadership in public office and 2020 YGL Kabir Sehgal on using creativity to influence people’s intuition and emotion.

Tomorrow, we will begin Day 2 at 10:00 AM CEST with our first round of two-day workshops called Action Labs. To support different time zones, the Action Labs are offered twice per day, once at 10 AM to 12 PM CEST and again at 17:30 to 19:30 PM CEST. Choose just one slot that corresponds best to your time zone and please do plan to attend your Action Lab on Days 2 and 3.

See you tomorrow!
