Marco Magnani

Professor International Economics, LUISS Guido Carli, Italy

Marco Magnani is a Senior Fellow at Harvard University where he conducts research in political economy and organizes a seminar on economic reforms. He is affiliated with SAIS (John Hopkins University) in Washington, DC. Magnani has nearly 20 years of professional experience in investment banking, in mergers and acquisitions at JP Morgan and as Managing Director of Mediobanca. Magnani is on the Board of Trustees of AFS International and the elected Chairman of Intercultura. He is a Member of the Aspen Institute, Chatham House, Economic Club of New York, Council for US & Italy, International Affairs Institute and Global Agenda Council on Banking and Capital Markets. An AFS and a Jona scholar, Magnani graduated from the University of Rome, earned an MBA from Columbia University, and completed the Global Leadership and Public Policy programmes at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore, Harvard Kennedy School and Yale University.

Poonam Mahajan

Member of Parliament for Lok Sabha from Mumbai North Central, Maharashtra, Parliament of India, India

Poonam Mahajan is a member of parliament from Mumbai North Central and a politician of the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP). She is also the first woman President of the Basketball Federation of India.

Katherine Maher

Chair, Atlantic Council, USA

Katherine Maher is an internationally experienced CEO and executive director and an expert in leading global institutions through transformational change, often in good governance and democracy, civil and human rights, information and media, and international development and foreign policy. She is culturally fluent and always curious.

She was most recently the CEO of the Wikimedia Foundation, the nonprofit organization that owns and operates Wikipedia, one of the world's most popular websites. As CEO she was responsible for more than 1 billion monthly users and a global volunteer force of nearly 300,000 people in more than 75 countries. She managed an annual budget of $140 million, more than 500 staff in 40 countries, and 100+ global chapter organizastions. Under her leadership, Wikipedia attained the highest public trust in the institution’s history, defined an expansive strategic direction for the future, and generated user new growth for the first time in a decade, with a particular emphasis on demographic diversity and new markets. During this time, both Katherine and Wikimedia were vocal and prominent public champions of the rights to freedom of expression, inquiry, and privacy.

Today Katherine is a non-resident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council and serves in various advisory and board director roles. She is an appointed member of the U.S. Department of State’s Foreign Affairs Policy Board, where she advises the Secretary of State on the intersection of technology, democracy, and human rights. She also serves as a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, and a security fellow at the Truman National Security Project. She is on the board of directors for System.com, a trustee of the American University of Beirut, and a director of Consumer Reports and the Digital Public Library of America.

Néné Maïga

Chief Executive Officer, Orange Botswana, Botswana

Néné Maïga, from Timbuktu, Mali, is a visionary telecommunications leader. As CEO of Orange Botswana since 2021, she has propelled significant growth, revolutionizing internet speeds for Botswana. Previously, as Chief of Staff of Orange Middle East and CEO of Orange Africa, she spearheaded transformative projects and championed gender parity. Maïga is dedicated to leveraging digital technology for African empowerment, showcasing exceptional leadership and a commitment to innovation in her remarkable journey.

Chetan Maini

Vice-Chairman, SUN Mobility Pte Ltd, Singapore

BSME, University of Michigan; MSME, Stanford University. Entrepreneur and technologist passionate about renewable energy and clean mobility. Pioneer in the domain of electric vehicles. More than 20 years’ experience in electric, hybrid and solar vehicles. 1995, Founder, Reva Electric Car Company (now Mahindra Reva); leading the company to sell thousands of vehicles in 24 countries. Co-Founder and Vice-Chairman, Sun Mobility, a company that plans to revolutionize the transportation sector by deploying a unique open architecture ecosystem built around a smart network of quick interchange battery stations. Holder of more than 30 global patents. Formerly: Member, National Board of Electric Mobility, India; played an instrumental role in implementing the EV policy for the country; Chairman, Personal Mobility Council. Director, Maini Group. Co-Founder, Virya Mobility 5.0. Investor and mentor of several clean-tech start-ups. 2011, Young Global Leader, World Economic Forum. Recipient of honours and awards, including: Man of the Year award, BBC Top Gear; Innovation award in Energy and Environment, The Economist, London; named one of the Top 50 most influential people in India to bring about change, Businessweek magazine.

Ayla Majid

Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Planetive, Pakistan

Ayla Majid is the Founder & CEO at Planetive Middle East and Planetive Pakistan. She is a leading energy transition strategist, decarbonisation investor and M&A expert with emerging market focus. Ayla has over two decades of investments and financial advisory experience across sectors including: large infrastructure, energy transition, and digital innovation. Ayla sits on the boards of companies in sectors: energy, AI, engineering, pharmaceutical, and microfinance bank. Siemens Pakistan Engineering; and Abbott Laboratories (Pakistan) Limited, Member of the Board of Governors of The Helpcare Society (a non-profit running “Teach a Child Schools” for under privileged children). Elected Global Deputy President and Board Member, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (UK).

Through various roles pushing the boundary for sustainable energy, hydrogen’s role in energy transition, decarbonisation, sustainability led governance, and climate tech.

Successfully completed Board Roles: Government Holdings; (first independent chair of the board of the state owned energy holding company, where she provided stewardship for successful investments in large scale mineral and energy assets), Central Power Procurement Authority, Pakistan (company responsible for buying entire country’s power); Mari Petroleum Company Limited, ISE-Real Estate Investment Trust; Islamabad Electric Supply Corporation, Islamabad Stock Exchange, and Intellectual Property Rights Organization of Government of Pakistan.

In January 2020, Ayla moderated a high level discussion on the “The Global Risks” at the 50th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos. Ayla is an Eisenhower Global Fellow 2021. She is a thought leader and speaks regularly on Hydrogen strategy and project development with a key focus on the MENA region. Was a plenary speaker at Gastech 2022 in Milan, Gastech 2023 in Singapore, and led sessions on hydrogen as energy transition fuel at LEAP 2022 in Riyadh.

Tamer Makary

Founder, Ethica Partners, USA

Tamer Makary has long served to deliver sustainable strategies that ensure all people, regardless of their economic means, have access to quality care and equal opportunity. Tamer is a sector agnostic, accomplished strategy advisor and social advocate, with extensive emerging market experience. He focuses his efforts on the growing intersect between the worlds of commerce and philanthropy and is committed to evolving donor dependent programs and advancing standalone socially sustainable business models. Most recently, Tamer founded Ethica Partners, a specialized advisory/investment platform focused on supporting governments, multinational corporations and NGOs on strategy development, implementation/transaction execution support and capital raising initiatives.

Tamer graduated, in 2001, with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and History from Columbia University and currently serves on the Board of the Africa Eye Foundation, the Samuel S. Fels Foundation and is an advisor to Impact4All.org. He is a member of the Ashoka Support Network, the BMW Young Leaders Foundation and was recently selected into the World Economic Forum's Class of 2018 Young Global Leaders.

Tumi Makgabo

Founder and Executive Director, AfricaWorldwide Media, South Africa

A businesswoman and entrepreneur, Tumi Makgabo runs AfricaWorldwide Media, a company which aims to provide more opportunities for Africans to tell their stories through the production of development-focused content and the use of online platforms. She is also the founder of Tumi Makgabo Enterprises, which invests in opportunities throughout Africa. An accomplished broadcaster in both her native South Africa and for news network CNN International, Makgabo uses her voice on global platforms to advocate for action on some of Africa's most pressing issues, particularly the empowerment of women and freedom of press. She currently serves on the Boards of Sun International, TFG (The Foschini Group) and Lebone II College of the Royal Bafokeng.

Jonathan Malagon

Visiting Fellow, Growth Lab, (Colombia's Minister of Housing 2018-2022), Harvard University, USA

Minister of housing of Colombia since August 2018. Previously Vice-President of the Colombian Banking Association; has substantial experience in both the private and public sector. In the telecommunications industry, served as Executive Director of the Colombian National Program of Telecommunications and as Controller, Chief of Staff, Chief Economist and Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer at Telefonica Colombia.

Marlene Malahoo Forte

Senator, Houses of Parliament of Jamaica, Jamaica

Currently serve as Attorney General of Jamaica and elected Member of Parliament for the Constituency of St James West Central since March 6, 2016. Formerly, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade and Government Senator from 2009 to January 2012. In between, served as Shadow Minister of Health and Opposition Senator from 2012 to February 2016. Spent time in academia as Lecturer in Criminal Law Practice and Procedure at the Norman Manley Law School, Jamaica. Served as Judge of the Parish Courts for almost a decade and as President of the Judges Association; Prosecutor and President, Legal Officer, Staff Association. Chair Emerita: Women's Leadership Initiative, a committee of United Way of Jamaica, focusing on education, health and rights of women and children. Graduate: Harvard University (Kennedy School Edward S. Mason Fellow), Yale University (Yale World Fellow), King's College London (Commonwealth Scholar), University of the West Indies & Norman Manley Law School. Named Among: Top Women in Law, Jamaica's 50 Most Powerful Women; Jamaican Woman of Excellence. Recipient: JCI West Indies Top Young Person Award (2010) & Bigga High Achiever in the Legal and Judicial Systems.

Anne-Laure Malauzat

Partner; Head, Europe, Middle East and Africa Social Impact Practice, Bain & Company, USA

Anne-Laure Malauzat is a Partner with Bain & Company in the Middle East. Based in Dubai, she is the firm’s regional Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) officer, and leads Bain’s Social Impact efforts in EMEA. Anne joined the firm in 2011 and, in 2020, became the youngest female Bain partner globally. Anne advises governments, philanthropists, and international organizations (such as UNHCR and Endeavor), focusing on education, economic development, and innovation. She has led the launch of multiple successful youth employment programmes in 5 MENA countries, and the design of the national Early Childhood Development strategy for a GCC country. She also works with private sector leaders in the retail space, supporting them in their growth, digitalization, and customer strategies. In addition, for the last decade she has served as mentor to start-ups and is a frequent speaker on topics related to gender equity, social impact, human capital development, retail, and innovation.

Anne holds an MA from Georgetown University and a dual Bachelor from Mount Holyoke College. She is an inducted member of the Phi Beta Kappa society, and a member of Georgetown’s MENA Board of Advisors.

Caroline Malcolm

Vice-President, Global Public Policy, Chainalysis, United Kingdom

Caroline leads the public policy team at Chainalysis, drawing on their unique data analytics and tools to work with clients from the public and private sectors to understand developments in digital asset markets and their intersect with global regulatory trends and requirements.

Caroline was previously the founding Head of the OECD's Global Blockchain Policy Centre, from 2018 to 2021, working on a diverse range of blockchain-related policy issues, such as fintech, competition policy, data governance, and supply chain transparency. In 2019, she co-led the Financial Stability Board’s workstream on decentralised fintech, and also established the OECD’s Blockchain Expert Policy Advisory Board, bringing together more than 100 experts from across the world in government, industry, academia and civil society. In 2020, Caroline was named a “Young Global Leader” by the World Economic Forum, and was a judge in the G20 techsprint hackathon. In 2022, she was a finalist in the Global Australian Awards.

Caroline's career began as a lawyer to the Australian government before she joined the OECD in 2010, to work on international tax transparency issues. She went on to set up the OECD-UNDP Tax Inspectors Without Borders initiative and then became the advisor to the OECD’s Head of Tax during the OECD/G20 BEPS (Base Erosion and Profit Shifting) Project. During this time, Caroline became more interested in the impact of emerging technologies on policy frameworks and began the first global study of the tax treatment of digital assets.
